How We Choose Our Staff
Every member of our staff team goes through the same process before they can moderate anyone, and the most serious powers are only given to staff who have been vetted twice.
1. Application
Anyone applying to join the staff team is assessed on:
- In-game playtime: a minimum of 24 hours.
- Punishment history: any warnings, kicks or bans they have received.
- Recent chat history: how they actually talk to other players.
- Reports: reports made against them, and reports they have made.
- Community rapport and reputation: how they are known and trusted by other players.
All administration staff review the application and vote on it.
2. Scenario Quiz
Applicants are given a set of moderation scenarios and must justify every answer. All administration staff must accept the quiz before the applicant goes any further.
A good reputation isn't enough on its own. The quiz tests an applicant's judgement: what they would actually do, and why.
3. Training
Training is conducted over Discord voice.
4. Three-Week Trial
New moderators start with limited permissions:
- Warn and kick only.
- Basic building and chat moderation tools.
A brand-new moderator cannot ban anyone.
During the three-week trial, each new moderator is assigned a mentor from the administration team, who checks in with them and gives feedback.
At the end of the trial, they choose one of the following:
- Stay a moderator.
- Be promoted to full staff, which adds banning and rollback permissions.
- Stay community staff.
- Leave the staff team.
Serious decisions like bans sit with staff who have been vetted twice: once to join, and again at the end of their trial.
When the Report Is About Staff
- Reports about a staff member go to administration.
- Reports about the owner go to an advisory group outside the staff team.
To raise a concern about a staff member, email [email protected] or open a support ticket on our Discord with /support create.
